🔧 How to Replace the CPU Fan in Intel NUC8 (NUC8i7BEH / NUC8i3BEH / NUC8i5BEH)

⚠️ Disclaimer

This process involves disassembling your NUC. Doing so may void the warranty. Proceed only if you're comfortable with delicate electronics and static safety.

🧰 Tools and Materials Needed

  • Phillips screwdriver (size PH0 or PH1)

  • Plastic spudger (optional but helpful)

  • Thermal paste (new)

  • Isopropyl alcohol & lint-free cloth

  • Replacement fan: BSC0805HA-00, DC 5V 0.60A

  • Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)

🔌 1. Power Off and Unplug

  • Shut down the NUC completely.

  • Unplug the power adapter and all connected cables.

  • Press and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge remaining power.

📦 2. Remove the Bottom Cover

  • Turn the NUC upside down.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws from the bottom.

  • Carefully lift off the bottom cover.

💽 3. Remove the SSD and RAM (Optional but Safer)

  • If needed, remove the M.2 SSD and RAM to prevent damage.

  • Set them aside in anti-static packaging or on a clean surface.

🧱 4. Remove the Mainboard

  • Disconnect all internal cables (fan, front panel, etc.).

  • Unscrew the board mounting screws.

  • Gently slide or lift the motherboard out of the case. Be careful of connectors underneath.

❄️ 5. Locate and Remove the CPU Fan

  • The fan is mounted on top of the heatsink.

  • Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard.

  • Remove the screws holding the fan in place.

  • Carefully lift the fan off.

🧼 6. Clean the Heatsink and CPU

  • Remove any old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

  • Let everything dry.

🔁 7. Install the New Fan

  • Place the new fan on the heatsink.

  • Align screw holes and secure it with screws.

  • Reconnect the fan cable to the motherboard.

  • Apply a small amount (pea-sized) of new thermal paste to the CPU.

🧩 8. Reassemble the NUC

  • Carefully place the motherboard back into the chassis.

  • Reconnect internal cables.

  • Reinstall the SSD and RAM if you removed them.

  • Close the case and screw the bottom cover back on.

⚙️ 9. Test the System

  • Plug in the power and boot the NUC.

  • Enter the BIOS to verify that the fan is detected and spinning.

  • Monitor CPU temperatures using software like HWMonitor or Intel Power Gadget.

🎉 Done!

You’ve successfully replaced the CPU fan in your Intel NUC8. Your system should now run cooler and quieter.
